For what its worth, I rode mine hard and fast at break in. It seems fast to me 15,000 miles later.
The old timers around told me to run it up an down the rpm range including to engine braking to pull oil up into the cylinders. They say engines they broke in that way are more powerful. I did that and also some WOT acceleration gradually working gradually up the tach over 1000 miles or so. I also put in dino oil at 500 changed to synth oil at 1000 miles.
