I'm reading a pretty good, end-of-the-world book which is about some kind of super-vampire but it has zombie overtones. "The Passage" by Justin Cronin. I'm not quite halfway done, but so far it is a pretty good read:

Indeed, I'd reccomend having 3 weapons, all relatively light. and those for which ammo is abundant. An all terrain motorcycle and a place inside but outside the city, close to a place where game is abundant, large park or resivoir are come to mind. Close to the city so if someone comes for aid or recue you will be noticed, but out of the zombie eye if you will.

From what I read in the Zombie Survival Guide, the virus that propels the zombies uses the central nervous system and brain, hence destroying the brain renders them powerless. It did say in the guide to never set a zombie on fire as they just keep going and eventually cause a lot of other fires.
