Suspension Query Bonne EFI

Gday guys I have a bonne mag wheel EFI 09 Cafe Style and I want to do something with the suspension both front and rear, since my bonne goes quicker than normal now due to efi Map Upgrade, AI and O2 Removal, Airbox removal its the final stage. I am looking at the intimitators from TTP Piemans shop. What progressive springs do I need as the bonne SE would be different to the standard t100 I think and what rears. I am looking at the progressive 970's piggybacks 360mm standard is 330mm and currently nitros are 340mm, but they are 2inch's higher than this, rides fine but a bit stiff and harsh and the buggered roads around home and have no clues about the front forks. At the min I have hagon nitro's which are awsome for the track but not the best for the CAFE' RUNS LOL. Please help the knowledge less I pray for your wisdom gentlemen and ladies CHEERS Looking forward to your advice Ben Dickens:sportbike::ride::scooter:

Hi mate,
call or PM me, there is a dude locally in Arthurs Seat who specialises in suspension sorting, you can have the front end sorted for $600, that's a complete rebuild with proper springs & bits. worth checking him out mate.
And Progressive in CA, have some great shocks, ten times better than stock for about $250

I tried to search 1ST however nothing specific for efi bonne's they have smaller stanchins and a lower rear end to accomodate for the 17inch Mag Wheels hence why I asked. Standard bonne suspension is easy heaps of options. I have been to ASR at Arthurs seat sportone except he wants 1950aud for the rear shocks and 670 for the front. I am unsure weather or not my riding ability will ever achieve the intent of this upgrade but it would be nice anybody got a spare 2500aud they want to give me BAHAHAHA LOL Cheers Ben Dickens

those prices seem way off mate, I spoke with him the other day, he said could do my front for $600 that's for a complete rebuild ! which sounds really good.

Your SE is no different really ?

For the rear stocks as I said, Progressive CA have some great ones starting around $250 this month that are heaps better than the originals etc. that guy does heaps of racing bike setups, so if you gave him the impression that you ride hard, he probably thought that expensive sort were what you needed. :ride:

Remember it's a Bonneville, not a track bike or rice racer, IMHO you can't ride that fast around here these days anyway. your worried about the cops picking you up for a bobed guard etc, I'd be worried more about them for excessive speed mate ? :sportbike:

Looking at the service manual for reference I don’t see any major suspension differences between the Bonnie models. They do use different wheel sizes and shock lengths which account for the slightly different specs. The stock SE shock is 300mm long the Thrux and Scrambler 360mm &T100 is 340mm. The down side of that low seat height on the SE and cast wheel Bonnies is that they lose about 5mm of suspension travel compared to T100, Scram, Thrux which I suspect is because of that shorter shock. I’m using a T100 length shock on my Bonnie (cast wheels) with no ill effects it feels like it quickened the steering a bit. YMMV

The stock rear suspension is 330mm the hagon nitro's are 340mm and I have experienced a quicker front end which is no drama. I am just trying to obtain the best suspension options eg what front end springs do I need? Can I get the same ones that suit t100 etc, rincors yes/no etc.

Not a track bike, hahahahahahahahaha. Mine does track duty just fine.

Ok that's cool, what I meant for Ben was, as far as I can see or know, he doesn't use his bike for track or ride outrageously fast, so why does he need to spend heaps on super suspension ?

why, maybe 'cose he can ? got money tree in his back yard I guess ? :lol3:

In the 50's & 60's cafe racers didn't have the super sporty suspension bits that is available now & they went just fine. :nono:

Ben mate, you must have money to burn man ? :flag:

just ride it mate, it's a Bonneville, enjoy the thing, don't keep trying to add on bits,

now I know why you had the change the suspension, the standard shocks couldn't carry the added weight of all that bling ! :lol3:

Ben,
I went with the Progessive 1" lower front springs and the the Progressive 1" lower rear shocks on my 09 FI Bonnie.

The front springs were labor intensive, I installed them in my garage in 1 day.

The whole deal was less than $450.00 US including fresh oil. You should be able to complete this project yourself without spending major dollars.

(330mm right thanks, clumsy fingers on a tiny keyboard:shrug:)

Yes the same T100 springs will work for you, the RICOR valves fit all Bonnies etc. Having said that, springs are very individual & much like shoes "one size does not fit all". Usually they are chosen to match your weight, bike load and riding style. Companies like Race Tech and Traxxion have on line fork spring calculators but since they are race oriented companies the spring rates recommended may not suit you, on the other hand it can be a good starting point. Companies like Progressive and Hagon offer progressive springs that work well for many folks but again they may not suit you. Read some of the suspension information on the websites of the companies I mentioned above they offer a wealth of info. And you can call the vendors that sell this stuff get their recommendations.

The best advice is change one thing at a time and try it out. If you are going to spend the coin for Intimidators start with the recommended fork oil and stock springs, you can change them later if you find they don’t work for you. Good luck and post your review of what you end up doing.

Cheers!

You know WHY mate and I am trying to avoid spending the big bucks so thats why I am asking, I spend 260 per mnth just to keep me upright on perscription drugs so I cannot afford the asr 2650 bill:up:

that's part of why I am suggesting you looking at the cheaper options instead of high end expensive big brand named items ?

You would know the more control, shocks & suspension have, the harder ride you get, just like putting performance suspension on our cars, you have to sacrifice comfort for control. Perhaps in you case, maybe the softer ride of closer to standard shocks are better for your body comfort ?

ASR can with the front end anyway, take your size & weight into count & produce a front end setup that personally suits you ? :c

good luck with your search mate,

still waiting for that catch up ride man !

Cheers mate I am thinking of getting the rincors cheap option and seeing how I go, and what you said is totally correct the more stable the harder just looking for something inbetween mate. I have adjusted the nitro's and they seem a heap better not as hard as they were better absorbtion for our good peninsula roads and I am a great deal happier with them so they are off the shopping list at the min. I think that half of my problems are attributed to the change of ergonomics to obtain the look I desire. If I can remove the nose dive a bit and a better absorbtion I think I will have resolved all my issues. I will be listing a heap of parts for sale soon on the site so keep your eyes peeled. Cheers and thanks heaps for you help sportyone nearly ride time buddy catch ya soon Ben

I'm running ZRX 1200 rear shocks with the spacer removed and CBR 600 F3 front forks with stock sliders. It's a great combo and makes the bike handle more like a modern sport bike. The setup took a little work to install (all the info is here on these forums) but costs less than $500.
