Sump gasket leak, anybody ever had one?

I have just had the source of my oil leak traced to the gasket. What was just a smear last month progressed to a dripping leak and became bloody dangerous after my back tyre slid out a few times last week because of it.

Have you tried niping up the bolts on the sump
Sometimes it pays to just check bolts after a while

Yep - but the gasket had failed, bloody hard to trace at first because of the capillary action of the oil. At first I thought it was the crush washer on the filter, or even the filter itself.

Pretty simple fix and a good opportunity to rinse the pan while it's off

I have never heard of this leaking before though, anyone else had this problem or even heard of it?
