Never had a problem with a kick starter, actually I was driving a '66 Bonnie when most of the bikes started coming out with them so really had not a lot to do with them. I kinda miss having one but not enough to worry about it. These days I've got two artificial hips so it's probably a good thing I've got an electric leg on the '07, you have to be careful how you move with titanium joints, they can dislocate and that's no fun at all.
I do think Kawasaki did a good thing by having both types on the W650's.
