Priming the engine after changing oil and filter

I've heard many motorcyclist say to fill up a new oil filter with fresh oil before mounting it underneath the engine. This is a way to help "prime" the lubrication system before the next engine start after changing the oil, however perhaps a bit messy.

Here's a trick to priming the crankcase with fresh oil with a new but still dry oil filter mounted. Just pull off the spark plug terminals while cranking the starter motor. The starter motor turns the crank at a relatively slow 350 rpm, which is harmless to a freshly oil filled engine. This does a good job of circulating the oil in to the oil cooler, the filter, the heads and all other critical lubrication areas replenishing oil throughout the engine before the next actual start up.
