How are the roads around Suches?

I recall someone mentioned road construction around Suches. Any updates? I have to return my son to Atlanta this weekend and was thinking about riding through that area.

They repaved the upper part of Hwy 60. I havent been on it yet, but the report was saying the 'tar snakes' were still at the bottom of Hwy 60 (from TWOs to Rockpile). Best to stay on Hwy 129 and Hwy 180 .. then the upper part of Hwy 60 from Suches to Morganton

Having just come down that route a few days ago, once you leave Union county it's still all tar snakes, though they are starting to get flattened from traffic - but still quite annoying. New pavement all through Union county though cleaned up some previously nasty areas of pavement North of Suches.
