Advice on security

Hello all,

I just bought a new Bonneville this week and I am very excited to get it and start riding. I was searching this site for ideas on the best way to protect the bike from theft.

I was considering the Triumph alarm but the advice on this forum plus what the guys at the bike shop ( Triumph Dealer in Hamilton, ONT) said made me skip it (battery concerns).

I will have a safe place to park at work and I will leave in the backyard at my house so it is away from prying eyes. I have been looking at these products:

https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/xena-xx15-disc-lock-alarm.html
https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/kryptonite-new-york-u-lock-black-4-x-8.html

I also realize that I don't have much storage on the bike so I need something portable or would go with an alarm if there is any recommendations from fellow riders. I would also like to get your input on tank bags or just strapping a backpack to the back when commuting to work? I ve used tank bags in the past and find them handy as I am not ready to put hard luggage carriers yet (don't need that much storage, just little stuff and the disk lock if worth it).

Thank you all

looks like you've got two pretty secure locations to park the thing already. I'd look into something that would make some noise...there was something called a screaming mimi that if it comes unplugged puts out a wailing noise. Of course that only works when you're within earshot.

Strange how timing is everything. I just yesterday sold a new unused Scorpio alarm to a guy in T.O. Helluva good deal too.

BTW, don't waste your money on those types of locks. If the thieves want your bike, they'll just pick it up and take it.

Which Bonneville did you buy?

You have a link to that alarm? What are you recommending?

I bought a new 14 Bonneville SE I think :) Blue and white with the mag wheels.

The first disklock has an alarm built in, with a shock/moment sensor

Didja get the Bike from Sturgess? I'm sure I had been looking at that very one last fall. I ended up buying a used '14 T100.

Here's the alarm http://www.baysideperformance.ca/scorpio-sr-i800s-rfid-hands-free-remote-controlled-alarm although I sold mine for a lot less.

And the ignition disabler http://www.baysideperformance.ca/scorpio-alarm-accessories-ignition-disabler-anti-hijack-kit

Those Scorpio units are supposed to be quite good, but to be honest I wouldn't bother with an alarm. As I suggested, if they want your bike bad enough, they'll take it.

Congrats on the new bike. I personally am not a fan of tank bags, but I know others like them. My preference is a good motorcycle-specific backpack. I have the R20 from Kriega. It's well made and has a fit system that makes it feel light and secure on the back. Here's a link: http://www.kriega.com/r20-backpack/

I use to use a tank bag on my CB when living overseas. Bought a GIVI in Thailand (real one) , I am going to to check out the backpacks also as they might be better for the daily commute and holding my suit for work :)

Oh great, I was going to stay over a buddies place in TO on the way back to Ottawa once I picked up the bike. He lives in an apartment downtown Toronto the worst location I think. I am seriously considering that disk lock with an alarm :)

You're coming from Ottawa to Hamilton to buy the bike? Didn't the Good Time Centre have any?
