After your last post and the several other sarcastic tones you had....I will be going to another site. I already have you pegged. All key board and nothing to back it up, Good luck with your little little site....

Ha! I already had you pegged too douchebag. Here, I'll escort you to the door (again).

Haven't posted here yet, because you know, whatever.

But this seemed like a stupid plan from the get go.

Imagine the conversations after this trip?

Person : "OH really? you rode cross-country on a motorcycle? wow, what did you see, what happened?"

You : "Nothing. I didn't see or do anything of interest. I simply rode."

Person : "Oh.... Cool." *Interest gone

lame guy, bad post, good riddance.

Yup, I'd rather spend a week riding around the scenic mountains of West Virginia than speed riding to California and back. I'd never have to ride on an Interstate Highway and wouldn't be more than a couple hundred miles from home, but it would be a much more enjoyable trip.

Funny how this dude posted this- i just made a thread about what suspension to buy as I'm riding from east-> west coast this summer.

i did NC to CA and back this past summer on my Thruxton.

i took three weeks and enjoyed it.

no slabs on the way out, then i played in California for a week.

left Los Angeles on a Wednesday afternoon, slabbed it back, pulled into home on Sunday.

eating miles up on the slabs sucks big fat donkey balls.

I wish that I had taken 4 weeks and done secondary roads back.

well ... he's gone .. and so is a long time snoopin spy who's been using what he sees here to punish people on TRat.

Couldn't work that guy out - comes here, reckons it's "a little hostile" then starts prattling on about mega miles on a fucking Victory. As if we'd give a shit???
Surely people have brains enough to scan the board for a week or so to get the feel before posting? I'll answer my own question - obviously not.

BTW, what do you guys think is a realistic rolling average? Obviously it depends on the type of roads you predominantly ride on and the stops you take, but for me, if I am planning to be somewhere here and know the route, I normally figure about 40 - 50mph including stops. That's about 75 - 90mph on the straights and as low as 30 through the tight stuff.

Cheers,

Pikey.

Pikey .. I dont know anything about your side of the world - especially the roads and infrastructure, but here in the States ... my experience from interstate traveling - I could only manage 50 miles per hour on average if I drove around the speed limit and stopped to piss. 55 .. maybe 60 miles per hour if I cannonball'ed it.

I went round trip from Nashville, TN to Castle Rock, CO .. took a 2 hr nap out there .. did it in 22 hrs straight. Came back without stopping for rest and did it in 20 hrs. It was 1100 miles one way .. ALL interstate.

I'll have to work it out more accurately as I'm off on a 3 day trip wednesday - mixed roads but no highway. You may be right and I've guesstimated high. Mind you, my stops are usually just fuel, piss & a snickers or something and then maybe a 30 minute lunch stop.

What's the speed limit now in the US and is it rigidly enforced? Over here there's hardly any enforcement so the limit is set more by the road conditions and rider confidence than anything else.

Cheers,

Pikey.

I havent been to the NE area in almost 10 yrs of more, but the south - southwest it's 70mph. While you can be cited for going one mile an hour over, it's pretty common to see people routinely go 10 mph over the limit - so much so - that when you ( I ) stop someone for it, they want to argue it's allowed. Like the numbers on a speed limit sign means + 10 mph. Recently, here in my state, a "Super Speeder" law has been put in the books. It's a revenue thing ... if you're caught going over 85mph on a 4 lane or over 75mph on a 2 lane, an extra $200 is added to the fine.

Good move on MASSIVE......what a jerk......
The ban reminds once again why I like it here so much.

What I like about riding with JC, my good friend here, is that we try to use back roads and we stop. Hit a nice corner with a view we pull over , stretch, scratch, have some water take a piss and talk. We make our destination relaxed and we can walk the next day.

For me ....not just pounding pavement.....its a break from the "day to day" work life....time to think and enjoy.

On norwegian rural/2-lane roads, 4-500 miles a day works fine for me. Anything more and concentration suffers and I start doing stupid things, best to call it a day then.

This is a stupid question but, why would one hate riding the super slab for a trip? Is it for the sole reason that it's boring? I have done no more than 200 mi. a day so i don't know much about touring.
