2006 Speedmaster & 2007 Bonneville Parts For Sale

I see this is an old thread, would the tim8ing and primary covers still be available? Are there any blemishes on the finish or any internal damage? They look clean in the pics. I recently bought and engine for a custom build and the covers were damaged in shipping.

How To: DIY Oil Pressure Gauge

I made one for each of our bikes (2) couple years ago. Got all my parts from J&P Cycles except the double banjo bolt. I machined one out of stainless since the fitting I connected to at the base of the cyl. on top of the trans is not a standard fitting. That fitting is about 1/2 again thicker...

    Newbonnie's Temp gauge

Not true, if you are in heavy traffic and are unable to go around you know when you need to shut down and let the bike cool. I had just such a situation on 95 heading north in to CT. There was lots of construction and I had no room with the barriers, when I got over 225 I started getting nervous...

    Custom seat work....

Use memory foam over the gel and finish shape with a surface prep pad on a die grinder. You can make a gel insert seamless that way.

I think it's cry babies and whiners we don't want here.

    Spark plug coloring (pics)

Those plugs look pretty darn good to me. Your mixture is very close and I wouldn't mess with it myself.

    Speedmaster battery questions

Check your frame ground first, as well as put a meter on the battery while the bike is running and rev it to note any change. I mean to check where the ground wire from the battery attaches to the frame. Also clean and use electrical grease on both battery terminals and the wires on the...

165 photo's of Thunder in the Valley

Just got home from there a little while ago this evening. Had a great time and met a few people I had been talking to online too that made it all the better.

    over jet?

Yep I vote remove the shim but that shouldn't effect your idle since the butterflies are closed and the main isn't in play at idle.

    over jet?

Could be idle jet size or just the mixture screws need adjusting. Could also be as simple as adjusting your idle or possibly your carbs need to be balanced.

    Custom seat work....

Posted this at BA.com I have been planning to do a gel insert on Wendys bike but haven't yet. You can get the gel fairly cheap on Ebay and then finish it by covering the gel with memory foam. I posted instructions how to do that quite some time ago with pictures. Click the link for instructions...

    Oil - The official thread

Have to be careful with auto oils, they have friction modifiers in some of them and that is bad for bikes. Oil designed for cars also doesn't have the resistance to shear needed for the transmission in bikes in many cases.

    Shims?

To shim a needle (small stainless washers from the hardware store work well) you remove the top cap from the carb and spring. Be careful not to disturb the diaphram, no biggie if you do but easier if you don't. Reach in with small needle nose pliers, hemostats, or even some balled up duct tape in...

    Dammage

I never trailer , in fact I have a T shirt with big white letters on it that say "Fuck you and the bike you trailered in" Even back when I was still riding my 66 TR6C chopper (still have it) I rode that straight through to Yellowstone Park from north east PA. as well as many other places such as...

    The dreaded tire question!

If you are popping a lot on decel it isn't the pipes (unless you don't have them sealed and they suck air). Excessive popping is a sign of running lean especially in the pilot circuit.

    Dammage

HEY! 98 out of 100 Hardleys ever made are still on the road! The other 2 made it home! (can't take credit for that but it's funny)

The gutted tors, the larger jets, the better pull, but same top end?

Don't do it just because someone says to, verify thats what you need first. I know on my SM I was scary lean with a 42 pilot and now run a 48 and am damn near perfect. You should get your bike as close as you can and then run a dyno and tweek accordingly.

    Sealed wheels?

I have never done that but would be interested to hear from those who have as well. I wouldn't mind doing Wendys bike too for the same reason. I don't want to create a leaking hassle though either so before I try it I would like to hear some experiences with it and what products are good or bad.

great shots, looks like a cool ride.

The gutted tors, the larger jets, the better pull, but same top end?

Every bike is a little different but I agree 2 shims is probably a little much and the 42 is probably 1 size small. If you turn the mixture screws out much more than 3 turns to get it right you should move up a size.

    Modification Questions

I agree the bell mouth seems a waste of money to me as well. As a velocity stack it would be useless since the filter defeats that purpose. You could achieve the same basic thing if you just cut a bigger hole in the filter lid.

The gutted tors, the larger jets, the better pull, but same top end?

Bonafide has a good point too, the size of your rear tire will effect top speed and RPM too to a certain degree but not as great as the sprockets unless the size change is pretty dramatic.

The gutted tors, the larger jets, the better pull, but same top end?

Top end stays the same and so does top speed in any given gear. 100 MPH in 5th will be same RPM unless you change sprocket sizes. Larger in front gives more top end and lower RPMs at any given gear and speed combo but you lose torque off the line. Smaller front gives more low end grunt but...
