Rear Caliper Bracket

Why the Scrambler never had an above the disc & swing arm mounted caliper has been the question of many.

It just leaves the caliper exposed to damage or being fouled if off in hazardous territory.

So a different mounting bracket was needed

Mark I Version
Made out of steel this was to prove the viability of the using the OE caliper and brake line hose.
You see by the arrow where the caliper had been dinged when mounted underneath.

Now the plan was to machine something out of high-grade aluminum by an American with 15 years experience using US machines

This is MkII which we will be using for stress & operational tests.

The OE hose works but we believe that a fractionally longer one will allow us to affix it tidily to the swing arm

Let me know your feedback

the production model will be powder coated satin black to blend in with the swing arm.

My feedback is that you're light years ahead of most of us, as usual. I never understood that rear caliper. It was like playing football without a jock strap. Who will sell them and approx. how much? Thnaks.

Will keep you advised - a MkIII version is underway & has been promised to a prominent rider - but tweaks only.
Hope to have a price and possibly a US distributer sometime in July.

Jesus H. Christ Rhodie, you're the man. I'll be watching this very closely, just like my wife watches my ever draining bank account thanks to you and Scratch.

Gee, I was just gonna mock one up using old popsickle sticks, JB Weld, and a bit of cardboard. Looks like you guys are on track so I wil go do something else. Let me know if ya need any help! :D

Awesome Rhodie! I can't believe I missed this thread for 4 days. I'll be needing one of those things post haste. It's a wonder I haven't broken my caliper off by now. It's banged up pretty good.

Yet another thing for the long list of stuff the factory should have done for us.

Cheers!

Just awaiting delivery of 6061 T6 aluminium billet before we can work on MkIII.
In the meantime MkII will be undergoing low flying thumping
by Aussie pilot Mark Rossi to finish off the video.

Also, just to let you know I am working on a handmade 20 litre tank
which should work with the non EFI models.

The concept is to keep the same shape but overall being slightly larger
to gain capacity & range.
Therefore it should be more aesthetically pleasing than the Hyde offering and
in a different price bracket.

Your thoughts & comments on this would be appreciated.

Similarly we are looking at a one piece steel front fender/guard - about 1.5 higher
than the tyre and about 2-3 inches longer.
also we are looking at a larger rack with a non-welding solution
Finally an oil cooler guard.

something like this

but with a bigger tank

Good stuff Rhodie - particularly for all of us who know there's a good dirt-road machine living inside each Scrambler!

I like the idea of a laarger tank, and your cooler guard will prolly be much better looking than my current square of cast off screen! :D

Just 20 l.? On my ride today I was trying to calculate how much capacity I would gain by adding 3 inches to the tank width. This would give me the added capacity and let me grip the tank on the exhaust side with my knee.

Or just bring on the full Dakar tank!!!

Well the MkIII has been finished and has been dispatched for some
exhaustive antipodean tests. :D

CNC Milled from 6061 T6 Aluminum Billet & then powder coated

Front - the wire guide is for those who may want to put a longer hose on.
I am using the OE and have not had a problem.
But will put more miles on before being convinced that it would be better off having an inch or two longer.
It also depends on what suspension set up you have.
