Random attack at a traffic light

The person driving the car was an idiot or was just too shocked and scared to think It would have been simple enough to drive out of the parking lot after the first hit (with or without hitting the attacker) and dial 911. Keep the attacker in sight so you can ID him.

It's to keep them from doing something worse next time. What possible redeeming societal value could that crackhead have?

..Charles Bronson type vigilante stuff?? I'm no ones judge or executioner. Of course I'd act to end the situation one way or another either getting away using the car, dialing 911 or even man to man if need be, but no more than that. Thats why I personally would not get a pistol carry permit. Too easy to become Charles Bronson.

"... you know what I'm sayin'?" Sorry, no... speak English, please!

Check it out, a planned, random attack. There just happened to be a video, and there just happened to be a tire iron in easy reach. EVIDENCE... put the jerk away!

Poor woman at the light couldn't have known what hit her, panic, no where to go... I might have had the presence of mind to incapacitate him by "nudging" him to the curb, but then, in this great USA, he'd have sued my ass for more crack money - probably would win, too.

Sal, all due respect man but I think calling the victim an idiot and trying to Monday morning Quarterback her actions is ludicrous. Perhaps that was her first time in that area and she didn't see the easy exit you did. She also didn't have the luxury of time and the "instant replay" that we do.

As for the options you've articulated:

1) Get away. By far the best solution but not always feasible.

2) Dialing 911. Great idea and definitely something that you or someone witnessing attack should do. Your first priority however should be to defend yourself. 911 response times are measured in minutes. When you've only seconds to save your life that's a pretty long time.

3) Good old fashioned fisticuffs. Check your premise here. This wouldn't be "man to man" it would be "man with a club vs. unarmed woman". Even if it were mano a mano do you really think it's a fair fight? Did he have a gun? Are his buddies right there to throw you a little boot party once you step out of the car? I couldn't tell from the video. I'm not saying you couldn't defend yourself in this situation but I think the cards are stacked in the attackers favor.

A vigilant is seeking revenge, "street justice", or some other such foolishness. Defending yourself isn't premeditated action. It's serendipitous if the attacker is rendered incapable of further violence towards yourself or others.

I support your decision not to carry a firearm. You know yourself and have made a choice that carrying a firearm is not a good option for you. I choose to take every advantage I can get.

Carrying a firearm includes the responsibility to act less aggressively. Deadly force is always a last resort. In that last resort scenario I just don't want to be out of options.

Again, please don't take this personally.

I have never been a violent or aggressive person. Have always thought best thing is to mediate, calm the situation or walk/run away safely. Since having my daughters I have slightly altered my outlook. Take the video.....if my car was attacked with my family in it if there was a clear avenue of escape I'm outta there......if no escape the girls on the floor and I run the idiot over or pin him to another car or if my car trapped take the alu baseball bat under the seat and do the best I can to keep him away from my girls until help comes. I'm a chicken shit when alone but I change when my girls are exposed.....

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Yep. My wife got a new job with a panic button she gets to wear. The boss explained, "push the button and the police will be here before you know it." Forward to a child having a seizure and the mother frantic to get help. My wife hits the panic button, another employee calls 911. The ambulance gets there and treats the child. 20 minutes later the Town Police show up explaining, "We have 20-25 minutes to respond." So much for the panic button. In our little town 20-25 minutes is enough time to finish their coffee and have a donut!

WOW... is all i have to add. I hope his crackhead girl mixes a-jax in with his stash and he ODs in a pile of his own shit. Fitting end to a brilliant life...
I have more sadness about a dying mosquito then that slim.

What I worry about is a society that deprives it's citizens of the basic right to defend themselves...

Its funny that the one thing I really like about Oz over US is that we dont have what you class as a basic right. I personally look at any crack head or nutter being able to obtain a weapon so easy as a big problem for the whole society. I normally avoid commenting on these threads as no ones views ever get changed.

We all have experiences, advice, people who have been there, old sayings, etccccc. I believe that if you do not have your personal "program" set in place for the event of something unforeseen or dangerous you will naturally panic like the lady driving the blue car. (of course I feel for her because the asshole and the video shooter were GUILTYYYYY of shit behavior ). Dude can relate because he is trained to react for the situations. I was in Grenada in 1986 while on my sailboat. I was alone at the time.....I had a few beers at the waterfront bar and I was wandering back to the boat. A guy jumped in front of me with an ice pick.....he wanted my money and watch.....I pulled the 38 from my pocket and said no.....there was a moment when I thought he was going to challenge me and to this day I have noooo idea what I would have done. Probably NOT shot and ended up getting stuck. He ran away......I puked my guts out in the street. I guess what I am trying to say is that I think I could do what needs to be done IF you have to make the decision envolving wife and kids. ........knowing myself I think I would hesitate if just me....not sure what that all means......

Musicccc....you all live in a different place ...OBVIOUSLYYYYYY.....but you have a different culture, police, media, TV, cinema......one of my issues is the tolerance of my USA society towards violence. Its an everyday occurrence for us so you need to deal with it. It is that the asshole in the video and the guy shooting the video seem to have rights above the panicked woman in the car. He has rights...needs a lawyer....can't pre judge....his mind and heart are fucked up, he is on drugs and needs rehab, so no big deal he didn't know what he was doin when beating the shit out of a random car....seems the heart pounding mind altering terror for the victim takes back seat until 6 months later some judge says ...gee you all are right the guy wit da crow bar did a bad thing.....
Sorry for the rant
LMY

Unfortunately Stroker. On the points you raised there, our society is pretty fucked up to. And the victim ends up with less rights than the culprit. Your ranting makes perfect sense mate

Criminals everywhere have more than ample access to firearms. The problem with making laws is that criminals tend to ignore them...that's what makes them criminals.

Sometimes things that work in one society don't translate to others. I wish Australia the best with their gun laws and hope that it works out for the best.

WHAT???? the citizen had a constitutional right to shoot the bastard : his life was in danger

Just last week an armed hold up of a security van occurred in Sydney during rush hour. And the armed guard had his pistol taken, as well as his life. Very sad.
I agree re criminals. But its the impulse stuff that worries me. Girl finishes with boy or is unfaithfull, wife leave's husband, road rage, just the impulse shit, yr know the type of things that are not pre planned.

Yeah I hear ya'. Sometime they use knives too. As long as there are people there will be a wingnut in the bunch. I'm more worried about texting kids, SUV soccer moms, aggressive BMW football dads, etc. then legal gun owners freaking out.

What if...

What if...

A recently graduated, aspiring film producer wannabe, were to get a cheap ass sh*tbox car (maybe a grad gift from a Dad he didn't like), get one friend to drive it, while another was to rant on & smash it up, while the first friend was in a strategic place coming down the road at just the right time...

Then the video he shot was posted on the internet to gain some attention for himself, & he could sit back & chuckle thinkin' it was all justified as he was just trying to make some kind of social statement like his idol Spike Lee?

I have trouble believing half the stuff I see on the internet, because I just don't know the whole story. Reminds me of a video someone posted on NBR a while ago about an old war vet who beat up someone on a bus who was picking on him. Found out later he was connected with the videographer... Don't believe all you see folks.

But they are both still a waste of skin (& yes, maybe the driver too) in my book, no matter how you look at it.
