Once, a long time ago when I was a kid I scratch built a balsa plane. Never again. It's hell. I do like the tinkering and figuring out that comes with servos, linkages, motor mounts, balance and screwing it all together. I don't use the recommended setup for power or radio and I use whatever old servos I have so I have to do a little bit of figuring, Thats my speed. The sratch build is too time consuming , its not for a guy with a house and family to take care of IMHO and frankly once you start making mistakes it gets fukkin' ugly.

KIWI, love the triplane.

The Camel is a dream to fly. It will turn on anything and it is unmatched in this campaign. Unfortunately, the army has assigned a complete idiot , in the person of one Cpl. Sal Paradise to serv as my mechanic. The original 400 motor burned up on my second fight and destroyed my speed controller. Luckily I was able to land with no damage. My mechanic should have known it was a bad motor as he admits he salvaged it from another ( crashed ) plane. A new brushless 450 motor was promptly ordered and Paradise stayed up half the night cutting and hacking to fit the new larger mill. Its a beauty, twice as powerful as the old engine. Incredibly,Paradise tells me , its made in China! I'm really happy with it.

Today I was practicing landing approahes on a little league field when my plane was struck by a rather large dog!!! My idiot mechnic blantantly admits to bringing the beast in blatant violation of Army regulations. Paradise is apparently very attached to this canine monstrosity. I collided with it on approach severing my starboard wing at the fuse an breaking my engine mount. I also lost one of my Vickers machine guns but fortunately Paradise trecked all over the field util he recovered it.Luky for him he did, I would have had him shot . Presently, Paradise tells me that the plane will be ready for flight again this afternoon , apprently after his "gorilla glue" fully hardens. Sometime I wonder if the man has any idea what he is doing.

Due to the inexperience of pilots on the Wester Front, maintainence is of the upmost priority. We must keep these planes flying!!!

So the Sopwith Camel has about 25 flights on it .I love it but its seriously no replacement for my old plane which was a little hotrod. The Camel can do aerobatics, but its a scale plane and from a ,lets say less than optimum design. Its a real hand full sometimes. With that in mind I just bought this and I am about half way through the build. Got the motor mounted, air frame together and servos installed.

I will be putting skis on it and eventually floats..like this. I have no experience with seaplanes or floats so it will be learning experience

Sal, save some money....get an old Triumph to restore. :)

Yeah, I thought of that but I have to have at least one good flying plane or I go nuts. Its the same kind of addiction as the bike, in a different way. This all started when I was teaching my 14year old son to fly my trusty Ultra and he cratered into the school soccer field.

Those videos were fun to watch.
THIS ONE shows a real Sopwith and a Spitfire flying in formation...fast forward to the 5 minute mark.

Nice Sal....looks like a couple of successful flights. See if you can fly that plane over my way. :) Should only be about 70 or 80 miles.....just a short hop for your pilot.
