Gearchange shafts?

Hi
I bought a set of chrome engine covers for my 2006 Scrambler from a private seller.
I now understand that these are from a late model bike that uses an uprated gearchange shaft. The bearing in the new clutch cover is for this larger diameter shaft.
Does anybody know if I can fit a new uprated shaft in my 2006 engine so that the new cover can be used, or is there a difference where the shaft must be supported internally.

Talking to myself again!

Perhaps this might be of use to somebody in the future.

1- The later uprated shaft will not fit into the early engine casing.
2- The small bearing and seal will not fit the later uprated clutch cover.

Thanks for that. And good to know Triumph actually attempted to solve the much-too-easy to bend shifter shaft issue folks were encountering even in the most minor of spills...

I had mine drilled out and fitted a larger bearing , Worked OK
