no brake light

I expect a bit of bagging for my carelessness but I need help....
I removed the rear guard on my speedy to replace a broken light assembly.
I have reconnected the wiring to the main harness and now I have lights, indicators but no brake light (from front or rear levers).
I have checked the fuses...all good.
I have run a new wire from the switch (under the seat) to the brake at the light..nothing.
I connected the brake to the light and it lit up.
The globe is good, I tested it in my bonnie.

My question...where do I check next?

try switching the wires that run to the brake light. I had the same problem after putting them together, fixed it right up. the coloring of the wires is not to be trusted

Check the bulb socket. I had one that would not make contact 100% of the time. It simply required removal and a slight adjustment. No issues since.

It turns out it was the plug that joins the rear to the main loom.

A spray with freon and all was good...so I assume dust or such that got in while it was apart...
