    Saddle Bags

I have these exact bags. I keep one filled with essentials like rain gear, sun glasses, rags, side stand puck, etc... The other side is empty and used for daily things I need to haul around. I have driven in the rain and everything was fine. I like the quick release cover clips instead of...

    My first countersteering

Congratulations on your new Bonnie. It is my first bike as well. When I started, I also went wide in the corners, it just takes practice. Counter-steering is really the only way to turn a motorcycle at anything over ~20kph. You will really enjoy it when you get the feel for it. Good luck and...

    Congrats Jimmy !!! Enjoy it.

    Flat battery

Wow, that's a lot of money for a starter. I'm glad we got it figured out though. I guess the good news is that your old battery is probably still good, so you have a backup. I managed to get my bike out for a 40km ride in 2c weather, cool but enjoyable. Mother Nature is threatening us with 15cm...

    Flat battery

good luck Jimmy, I'm betting it is the starter. You put it right to the battery and it did nothing. Keep us informed of the findings. Hope you get it back soon. Cheers.

    Flat battery

Excellent points Blue, that's usually what happens, spend all day troubleshooting just to find a simple item that was wrong. Indeed, batteries can show a full charge when not under load. I believe Jimmy got a new battery in post #11, so we assume it to not be the problem. And since he just...

    Flat battery

Thanks for saying that Jimmy, but I am certainly no expert. I just bought my very first bike in my life last summer. I only have 3,600 km on it now and I only have a learners permit. My road test is at the end of June, hopefully I will pass and be able to ride by myself, currently I need someone...

    Flat battery

The starter would not have a ground wire. It gets its ground through the casing which is bolted to the engine. The engine should have a ground wire connected to the frame which returns to the battery neg side. At least on my bike it is like this.

    Flat battery

Then one last thing I would check to verify the ground. Take some jumper cables, connect them to the battery. Put the neg side to the casing of the starter or a bolt on the starter. This will ensure a good ground. Then touch the positive cable to the connector of the starter. For sure this...

    Flat battery

The large wire from the solenoid would not go to ground, it goes directly to the starter, the starter gets its ground from being bolted to the engine. battery+ ---->solenoid---->starter Since you say the battery is good and all the fuses then I would suspect the starter. If you really want to...

    Flat battery

I have a Bonneville, but I imagine what I am about to say is true for yours as well. The solenoid should have two large wires on it. One goes directly to the battery (fused??), the other to the starter. So even with the key off, one side should have 12 volts approx to ground. So if you take a...

    let it snow

25cm (10in) fell in Ottawa Ontario. Today things are melting because of the power of the sun. I snowblowed the driveway right down to the pavement. It is now almost dry. What a difference a day makes.

How old and how many years have you been riding?

I turned 52 last Friday. I have been riding for one month now. Bought a 2012 Bonneville. Still have my learners permit, so can't ride alone yet until after next summers road test. Planning on retiring at 55 so I can ride all over the place and relax. I don't like the fast roads, just want to...

    2012 Bonneville Chain Adjustment

Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned, I was lubing the chain tonight and it appears that the chain has more slack than when I first got it 3 weeks ago. Although it could just be my imagination. I am going on a two day ride on Wednesday and thought about tightening the chain. So I was wondering...

    2012 Bonneville Chain Adjustment

I am a newbie and just purchased a 2012 Bonneville. I just got my MC learners permit and only have been riding for 3 weeks. I searched and only found one post about the rear spindle nuts torque to 85 ft-lbs. I am curious as to how you can torque these nuts with the exhausts in the way. I...
